BZ Table Tennis Betting at eleven-point speed
Five-minute games, matches settled in under an hour and a schedule that rarely sleeps. Table tennis fills the hours between hockey puck drop and the next esports series.
Match Winner and Set Betting, side by side
Most table tennis action on BZ.COM runs through two markets. Here is how they relate.
Match Winner
The simplest bet: who wins the match. There is no draw. In a best-of-five, the first player to three games wins; in a best-of-seven, the first to four.
Because table tennis has no team, no substitutions and no weather, the match price leans heavily on two inputs — the gap in level between the players and their recent form. Favourites are often priced short, between 1.20 and 1.50.
Set Betting
Here you predict the exact score in games. A best-of-five offers six outcomes: 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 for either player. A best-of-seven adds 4-0 through 4-3.
Set betting is where a short-priced favourite becomes interesting. If you expect a dominant player to win but think the opponent can take a game, 3-1 pays far more than the match line.
| Format | Win at | Correct-score outcomes |
|---|---|---|
| Best of 5 | 3 games | 3-0 · 3-1 · 3-2 (each player) = 6 |
| Best of 7 | 4 games | 4-0 · 4-1 · 4-2 · 4-3 (each player) = 8 |
| Single game | 11 points | Must win by 2 · from 10-10 it goes to deuce |
Team events combine several singles (and sometimes doubles) rubbers; markets are listed per match.
Why the format changes the price
Short games
A game to 11 is decided by a handful of rallies. A strong server can take a game before the opponent adjusts.
Service rotation
Serve alternates every two points, and every point at deuce. Serve-heavy players are dangerous early in a game.
Length favours the stronger player
Major singles draws often use best-of-seven. More games give the better player time to recover from a slow start.
The decider
In a fifth or seventh game, players switch ends at 5 points. Nerves and stamina matter more than ranking.
Matchups
Penhold vs shakehand, attacker vs defender, left vs right: some styles consistently trouble others regardless of ranking.
Reading decimal odds on a table tennis board
BZ.COM displays decimal odds. Multiply your stake by the price to get your total return: 2 USDT at 1.65 returns 3.30 USDT, of which 1.30 is profit.
To turn a price into an implied chance, divide 1 by the odds. 1.65 implies about 61%. Add both sides of a match together and you will get a little over 100% — that extra share is the bookmaker's margin. The bar under the players in our widget shows the same idea visually.
On set betting, implied chances are spread across six or eight outcomes, which is why the numbers look so much bigger. A 3-0 for a heavy favourite might sit around 2.50, while a 3-2 for the underdog can be 10.00 or more.
Tip: compare the Match Winner price with the sum of that player's correct-score prices. If one looks out of line with the other, it tells you where the market sees the match going.
Fits a coffee break
A best-of-five can finish in 30 minutes, which suits betting from a phone on the TTC, the SkyTrain or a lunch break.
